About Dolls In Action

Dolls in Action was founded in May 2013 by our Artistic Director & Owner Jami. Dolls in Action is an inspirational group of everyday individuals who are working together towards helping you feel better in your own skin and body by the art of movement in dancing.

DIA started because at times life has many societal pressures of what the ideal woman should be or look like. You’re probably thinking who cares what society thinks, right? But we are all human and unknowingly feel those pressures at times if not, a lot. We wanted to create a safe space where an individual can forget about those societal pressures and let loose by dancing and feeling confident in their own skin and body. We want to be able to connect individuals from all different backgrounds, even if just for an hour and provide a safe space for anyone who enjoys dancing in a non-intimidating and non-judgmental environment.

Dolls in Action looks forward to our dance classes, performances, collaborations with Chicago's local performers, as well as giving back to our communities with future projects.

Dolls In Action mission is to help you feel good about yourself even if just for a brief moment. If we change your life even better! We believe dancing is for everyone.

Meet Jami

Jami by day and Olivia Sylk on stage. Jami has been dancing since she could remember. Her first performance was at her Kindergarten graduation and ever since she knew she enjoyed entertaining an audience by Dancing.

As a child she was part of Dance groups as well as through her teens. She also attended Modeling/Acting School in her early teens.

One day Jami decided to Instruct a Sensual Chair Dancing class for fun with a group of friends and now 8 years later here we are.

Mostly Beginner classes, you can join Jami for our scheduled classes, Lady Style Fusion, Latin urban Heels, Sensual Movement II or our prop based class Tease if You Please. Can't make it to classes but still want to catch her "In Action?" You can catch her hit the stage for some of our Student Showcases or for some Guest appearances throughout the city with our Dolls In Action Performing Group.

Jami also specializes in Choreographing/Instructing for Special events, such as Weddings, Quinceaneras, Bachelorette Parties, Birthdays and/or Private Events.

Meet Azucena

Azucena Sans Souci (Blossom without Worry) has always enjoyed dancing. Although she feels she is no professional, dancing has always helped her free her mind and provides the sanity she needs. Thanks to Dolls in Action, she feels she has learned to love and feel confident within her own skin. Azucena never imagined performing or being a dance instructor.

Azucena was introduced to Dolls in Action by her childhood friend of more than 20 years, Jami, who founded Dolls in Action. With the growth of DIA, Azucena was given the opportunity to teach in February of 2019 as our Dolls in Action Level I Instructor.

Azucena loves how sensual dancing sparks a fuel to celebrate all body types and body positivity. Azucena’s passion is to provide and help individuals feel confident, be creative and shine through dancing.

Meet Michelle

Michelle Romero is Dolls In Action’s Hips, Whips and Dips instructor and Quinceañera & Special Events choreographer. Michelle has been dancing since she was 3 years old. She grew up learning to dance from artists she admired such as Selena, Britney Spears and Beyoncé. Hair whips are Michelle's specialty! Michelle's hobbies include dance, fitness, daily motivation, self help videos and/or books. She is very excited and grateful to be a part of Dolls In Action where she gets to do what she loves most. Michelle is passionate about teaching Dance and being able to connect with individuals through dance.

Meet Miss NYXon

Like the goddess of the night- NYX; Miss NYXon leans into the shadows of the dance and burlesque world with her rock and roll edge, erotic floorwork and hard hitting choreography. NYXon has had experience on all stages of life as a performer including: professional wrestling for WWE, modeling, stunt work, announcing,

fire eating and above all dancing professionally for organizations like: DRIP Orlando, The Vaudettes, GoGo dancing for various night clubs in El Paso, Texas, Las Vegas, Chicago and more. Catch her all over Chicago as a burlesque artist, choreographing for her rock and roll dance classes or for The Vaudettes. NYXon believes that every body can dance, find their sexy, and dance unapologetically to empower themselves- which is why Dolls Chicago is is the perfect place for her to park her broomstick.

Come join Miss NYXon every Monday at 8:30pm in her Rock N Roll Red Room to bring out your inner Rockstar and dance like the bad ass you are.

NYXon lives in Chicago with her husband, 4 cats (Sushi, Thackeray Binks, Jack Jack, Isa) and Willy the dog.
